America – Happy Thanksgiving from Colortude

Thanksgiving Colors

Colors that are typical of this time of year are fall colors, such as gold, browns, wheat, greens, yellows, oranges, off whites, blacks, blues, rusts, coppers, burgundy.
A typical menu that would blend beautiful with these colors might be: butternut squash soup, biscuits dripping with butter, cinnamon-rubbed turkey, chile, giblet gravy, corn bread, cranberries, pears, peaches, cinnamon baked apples, zucchini, carrots, string beans, fruit pies and pumpkin carrot cake.

8 Tabletop Looks 8 Tabletop Looks From ISES’s Design Competition

FROM NEW YORK On Friday evening, eight designers participated in the metro New York chapter of the International Special Events Society’s 2009 tabletop design competition, held at La.Venue as part of the three-day “Cook. Eat. Drink. Live.” expo. Members of the events industry including internal planners and owners of design and planning firms (as well as this editor) gathered to judge the tables, which were created with rental items from Broadway Party Rentals.

Because the designers did not have to follow a theme, the looks ran the gamut from a sparkly winter-inspired setting by Marc Wilson Design to a table draped with woven palm fronds by Flora New York. Neuman’s was awarded two round-trip airline tickets from Delta Airlines for the winning entry, a cornucopia-style design with a bounty of fresh produce, mossy accents, and an earthy color scheme. Blade Floral and Event Designs took home the second place award, and Floral Icon Events won third place. Here’s a closer look at all of the participants.

Why are Rainbows Colored?

Why are Rainbows Colored?

Why are rainbows colored?

How is a rainbow formed?

The mechanics of rainbows have been studied since ancient times. The Greek philosophers were aware of the role of reflection in forming a rainbow, and had some understanding of the role of refraction. In the 13th century, scientists produced theories on rainbow formation, and in the 17th century, Rene Descartes sketched out the conditions required to observe a rainbow.

We see rainbows because of the geometry of raindrops. When the sun shines from behind us into the rain, incident rays of light enter the drop and are refracted inwards. They are reflected from the back surface of the raindrop, and refracted again as they exit the raindrop and return to our eyes. Refraction is responsible for splitting the sunlight into its component colors.

How to Make Colored Soap Bubbles
http://tinyurl.com/26no95

By Anne Marie Helmenstine, Ph.D.
Soap bubbles can be colored using a pH indicator solution.

Make brightly colored pink and blue soap bubbles that won’t stain clothing or surfaces.

Were you one of those kids who tried to add food coloring to ordinary bubble solution to make colored bubbles? Food coloring won’t give you bright bubbles, and even if it did, they would cause stains. Here’s a recipe for pink or blue colored bubbles, based on disappearing ink, so the bubbles won’t stain surfaces when they land.
